History of Inclusion Japan
We started our activities in 1952 with only three mothers with children with intellectual disabilities. We became a corporation in 1955 and turned into Welfare Corporation in 1959
Our mission statement
- We work with people with intellectual disabilities and their families.
- We pursue inclusive society where people with intellectual disabilities enjoy community living with necessary support.
- We collaborate with self-advocates, parents, specialists, central and local officers and others to provide good services in order to support the independence and autonomy of self-advocates and their family members.
- We advocate for equal rights of people with intellectual disabilities and fight against discrimination of people with intellectual disabilities.
- We value international cooperation and exchange.
Our activities
- To provide information
Publication of monthly magazine, "Hand in Hand" Publication of quarterly easy-to-read newsletter, "STAGE" Publication of books and pamphlets related to education, welfare, employment, and so on Organizing and managing National Congress, and training sessions Maintenance of homepage - To influence policy making process
It is our mission to research and discuss where and how the people with intellectual disabilities live, where they work and who supports them and suggest each level of authority how they are supposed to be supported. - To promote advocacy of human rights
People with intellectual disabilities have the equal human rights to be included in the society. Yet too often it is not easy for them to speak up for themselves. What is needed is solidarity among people with intellectual disabilities, their families and people around them. Solidarity brings quality services and leads to the inclusive society. In pursuit of inclusive society we provide specialist counseling, peer counseling, publicity activities, and other supporting activities. - To promote self-advocacy
We support people with intellectual disabilities to speak for themselves and by themselves.
